East Coast & Ranges Region
Australia’s East Coast & Ranges Region
The East Coast traverses many different habitats, from heathlands to rainforest, mountainous ranges, and from woodland to wetlands and estuaries. This region covers the tropical coastal areas and hinterland of the state of Queensland (with key cities Townsville and Mackay), the sub-tropical Sunshine and Gold Coast and ranges near Brisbane, and the entire New South Wales coastal strip and adjacent Great Dividing Range to Sydney and nearby national capital, Canberra. It is one of the most populated areas of Australia, and serviced by frequent flights and a good road network. The climate varies from sub-tropical in the north to temperate in the south. The Paluma range near Townsville, Lamington NP near Brisbane and the Blue Mountains near Sydney are just a few of the many good birding locations here.
